Anxiety and panic attacks share some features but require different approaches. Understanding the difference helps you get the right care. **What Is Anxiety?** Anxiety is persistent worry or fear that doesn't always have a clear trigger. It can last for hours, days, or weeks and often focuses on future events or uncertain situations. **What Is a Panic Attack?** Panic attacks are sudden, intense surges of fear that peak within minutes. They include physical symptoms like racing heart, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, and fear of dying or losing control. **Key Differences** Anxiety is typically ongoing and anticipatory. Panic attacks are sudden and episodic. Many people with panic disorder also have ongoing anxiety between episodes. **When to Seek Help** If anxiety is interfering with your daily life, work, or relationships - get help. If you've had panic attacks, especially if they're recurring, mental health evaluation is important to rule out medical causes and create an effective treatment plan.
